The Being is our most authentic essence, the core of who we are beyond our personality and social role. It is what remains constant despite the changes in life. Connecting with the Being gives us a sense of unity and love that transcends the ego and physical limitations. What prevents us from achieving enlightenment is the inability to stop the constant flow of thoughts, which distances us from the deep serenity necessary to connect with our innermost nature.

Freeing Ourselves from Pain Residue

According to Tolle, the ego is the voice in our head that defines us based on the past and the future. Recognizing when the ego controls our thoughts helps us live peacefully in the present. Although the ego seeks fulfillment through possessions and success, true happiness does not reside in them. Detaching from the ego and understanding that no external achievement defines our identity is liberating.

Emotional suffering leaves a residue in our mind and body, creating a “pain body” that affects our reactions. Observing our emotions without being carried away by them is crucial for personal development. Although detaching from sadness and the ego can be difficult, it requires awareness and presence; by observing suffering without judgment, a profound inner change occurs.

The Present is a True Gift

The present is the only real thing we have, as our life unfolds in the Now. Focusing on the past or future takes us away from the only moment that truly exists. The past builds our identity, and the future promises fulfillment, but both perspectives prevent us from living fully. Recognizing and honoring the Now connects us with the Being, a state of pure consciousness that transcends thought and form, revealing the divine essence in all things.

Through this awakening, consciousness evolves, freeing itself from suffering and the cycle of the ego, allowing for a harmonious existence. This process is essential for the progress of humanity, leading us to a higher level of Being. Our life has an external purpose, centered on future goals, and an internal purpose, focused on the quality of our consciousness in the present. True meaning is found in balancing both purposes, harmonizing our external achievements with our inner growth.
